3 techniques I use to get over fear of clicking send on a cold email
How I combat the nerves of pressing send on a cold email or partnership pitch:
The 3 techniques I love…
Technique #1: Lizard Brain —>
Triggers to calm down my parasympathetic nervous system (aka my lizard brain: the oldest part of my brain that is primal and designed to keep me safe) that causes the fear
Deep breaths w long exhale
Yawning
Singing “Don't Stop Believing” really loud
Quick 1 min dance party
Technique #2: Stressful Body —>
Moves stress out of my body so I feel comfortable clicking send
3 sets of 12 squats with 30 lb slam ball
Off-balance lunges with 30 lb slam ball balanced on 1 shoulder
Fast trot around the block
30 min slow walk
30 min fast, heart-pumping walk
Technique #3: Stressed Mind—>
Moves stress or constriction out of my mind to create more creativity and out-of-box thinking
Ask yourself: what's the worst case scenario if I click send? How would I get out of that if it came true? Is that scenario likely, scale of 1-10?
Figure out: What's the benefit of clicking send? Rate the benefit compared to worst case: 1-5
Will you regret not taking this action in 1 week? 1 month?
Gaze at the sky, find an airplane soaring overhead and think: “I am limitless. If we figured out how to fly, I can do anything.”
Which technique will you use?
You’re amazing,
Laura
