Are cold emails stigmatized against?

It's only Thursday, and this idea has popped up 3x already.

The first time was from Jessica Andersen, a book coach for high-impact leaders. We were on a call chatting about a future collaboration.

She brought up this idea.

In fact, it touched such a nerve that she told me a long-forgotten story about when she’d sent a cold email.

Times two and three happened today.

Within about 90 minutes of each other.

One of my clients in Growth Multiplier Mentorship mentioned some well-known SaaS marketers don't recommend doing cold emails.

Because they wouldn’t hire someone off a cold email.

And the last time I heard this idea was from a new partner of mine Jessica, co-founder of Pristine Podcasts. She said,

"Despite the stigma against cold emails, I still send them and they've worked really well."

The idea that keeps popping up this week is:

Cold emails are bad and you shouldn't send them.

And if you DO send them, what the hell were you thinking?

Please stop that dreadful behavior immediately.

For shame.

Granted, there are loads of horrible cold emails lurking in the world.

Just like there are loads of sketchy airlines who upsell you the price of your firstborn child so you can sit in a seat with standard legroom capacity, eat snacks, and bring a bag that's larger than a briefcase on board.

That doesn't mean there aren't fabulous airlines with lie-flat beds, five course meals with hot towels offered upon completion, and showers on board.

Likewise, that doesn't mean there aren't fabulous cold emails out there connecting two great people and fitting a solution to a problem.

It just means you haven’t witnessed them.

Because 99% of the cold emails sent today are irrelevant, badly timed, or poorly written and rely too heavily on wannabe cute gimmicks

… and those are the cold emails the SaaS marketers, and other folks are getting in their inboxes.

No wonder they don’t think cold emails work.

Or that they’re bad.

Put another way:

Every friend was once a stranger.

And if you want to make more friends, clients, and money, you have to befriend strangers...

... with cold emails.

Am I saying that you need to send horrible cold emails like the ones that regularly plop into your inbox?

Nope.

There's a different way.

A way that's human-centered, friendly, and authentic.

And it's a way that's used by barely 1% of the cold emails sent today.

Which is excellent news for your fledgling little cold email striving to be born.

Because that little cold email has a chance to soar.

Cold emails aren't bad.

And if you send them, you're not bad.

In fact, you're brave.

Because you're reading this email, I wager that you're also eager to send different cold emails that dare to stand out in the inbox.

And I wager that you're not worried about those naysayers, because they're not the ones in the arena getting dirty and figuring out their true strength.

You're amazing,

Laura
